Marcy Wheeler: Is the Harman story an attempt to silence her on torture?
More from Kos blogger drational: Jane Harman is the Horsehead in the Bed.The story is plausible not just because Porter Goss--both a former Congressman and former DCI--might fit as one of the sources for all the intelligence reporters covering this story. But also because we know Porter Goss was doing a masterful job working the press to distract from his role in the torture tape destruction (that's what his on-the-record interview was all about). In addition, Porter Goss is deeply implicated in the Bradbury torture memos and the torture tape destruction (and is one potential candidate to be the "senior agency official [who] failed to provide a full account of the CIA's detainee-treatment policy at a closed hearing of the House intelligence committee in February 2005, under questioning by California Rep. Jane Harman"). And it's quite likely that Jane Harman knows quite a bit about just how implicated he is.
I am starting to think it makes perfect sense for the Gosslings to have given Pelosi an excuse to put a not terribly aggressive chair of the House intel oversight committee. Has the chairman ever done anything? He announces investigations, but pretty much nothing ever ever happens or comes out except press releases. It's not hard to believe Harman would have been a more aggressive and activist intelligence community overseer and that might not have served the Goss reign at the CIA -- even retroactively after he left the job in 2006 amid the Foggo affair.
And has anyone noticed that FBI director Robert Mueller is missing from all of these stories? No where to be found? It was Goss signing off on the warrants of a former political colleague he by many accounts did not like? Where was the FBI director? He was not going to touch this, but what did he know?
WAs Mueller already aware of FBI investigation into the wider
Cunningham scandal moving closer to Dusty Foggo who Goss had promoted
to be the #3 at the CIA -the Feds raided Foggo's office in May 2006 -
and a few days before, guess who was forced to resign from the CIA -
Goss
Interestingly guess who gave Goss the Congressional Distinguished
Service award in May 2006? And who approved for him to be put on a bipartisan Congressional ethics committee?? (even after the Cunningham scandal under his HPSCI watch and the Foggo scandal under his watch?)
Pelosi
