ElBaradei 1, Bolton 0. From the Washington Post. Reader J writes:
Meantime, reader DW alerts me that the pro-gun group, Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, has endorsed Bolton:...One of the chief controversies Bolton was involved in was his outright opposition to a third term for Mohammed El Baradei as IAEA Director General, on the supposed grounds that the U.S. did not want directors of international organizations serving more than two terms (the "Geneva Rule"). Bolton testified thusly in his confirmation hearing. But now Condi is having El Baradei summoned in for a visit tomorrow, where she will outline the "conditions" El Baradei must fulfill if he is to enjoy U.S. support, including a tougher posture on Iran...
I kid you not. Bolton's newest enthusiastic endorsers appear to be the kind of folks who worry about a UN invasion of Montana."As American citizens, we resent, deplore and condemn UN attempts to subvert the United States Constitution. In 1991, as Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security, Bolton told the UN Conference on Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects that 'the United States will not join consensus on a final document that contains measures abrogating the Constitutional right to bear arms.' We named Undersecretary Bolton the CCRKBA Gun Rights Defender of the Month for September of 1991." [...]
"The gun owners of America need John Bolton at the United Nations. Who cares what a political plagiarist from Delaware or a Sandinista chick chaser from Connecticut or a crybaby from Ohio have to say? It's time for the Senate to stand up for America!"
Meantime, Steve Clemons reports that the Dems have enough votes to continue to delay the Bolton vote.
