Iran threatens to re-start uranium enrichment, the AP reports. And the US and Europeans differ on the language of a draft IAEA warning, can you believe it?
A senior Iranian envoy suggested Wednesday that Tehran's partial yearlong freeze on uranium enrichment is about to end, shrugging off U.S. and European pressure to renounce the process and end fears that his country wants to make nuclear arms.
Both Washington and the European Union want a commitment from Iran to stop enrichment and have been working on a resolution to be adopted at an International Atomic Energy Agency meeting demanding that Tehran agree to such a freeze.
But they differ on the firmness of the wording of a resolution, with the United States seeking European support to have Iran hauled before the U.N. Security Council if it defies conditions meant to dispel suspicions about its nuclear agenda.
Everybody is playing their parts perfectly. The one thing you can say about the Europeans is they are predictable. [Oh, the hate mail, I'll get. But seriously guys one reason the US is so aggressive is the Europeans are so consistently ready to be streamrolled.] At what point does the European troika say, Gee, this diplomacy doesn't seem to be working?
